Checkered Crime - Tonya Kappes Blog Tour

Mystery with Humor Laurel London is one tough cookie. Orphaned and with one heckuva checkered past, she’s grown street smart and no one is going to tell her different, even if it means getting tangled up with the wrong side of the law. After terrorizing Walnut Grove, Kentucky all her adolescent life, she’s back and she’s ready to go on the up and up. Make something of herself. Prove the citizens of Walnut Grove wrong and make them admit she’s somebody.

But when mobster Trigger Finger Tony Cardozza jumps in the back of Laurel London’s car mistaking it for a taxi, she’s up to her ears in no good.

Recently fired and checkbook in the red, when Trigger offers to pay Laurel large wads of cash to drive him where he needs to go and keep her mouth shut, she’s all in. That is, until FBI agent Jax Jackson jumps in the back of Laurel London’s car threatening to take her to jail for her past crimes if she doesn’t cooperate with the FBI by going undercover to help bring down the mob.

Laurel finds herself battling the past and good vs evil and she’s not sure which is more deadly.

Derek is Laurel's bff. He's a hottie mctottie and I had to interview him!
I'm lucky he said yes!
Sit back and be prepared to giggle and blush!

T: Hey Derek!  Thanks so much for agreeing to talk with me!  I’m so excited!  I have some fun questions for you!
D: Thanks for having me. It’s my first interview so be gentle.
T: I'll try but no promises!

T: What’s your favorite hobby?
D: I wish I had something more charming to say to woo those women readers of yours, but I’m a car guy. I could play around a car all day long.

T: How did you learn to be an automechanic?
D: I grew up in an orphanage and Trixie Turner was in charge of the home. She always had me fixing something. Either the toaster, the TV, and eventually the car. All of which we got from the local Goodwill or Salvation Army. There wasn’t much to do out in the country where the orphanage is located, so I continually worked on shit…oops…can I say shit? I’m sorry. Anyways, I continually work on STUFF until it worked. I just had a knack for it.

T: Is Laurel the reason you want to go into law enforcement?
D: That girl is going to be the death of me or her or our town. She was a good reason to go into police work, but I’m afraid she wasn’t. Unfortunately, if she keeps getting into trouble, I’m not going to be able to get her off the hook.

T: Describe your perfect “ONE”.
D: I’m really attracted to a great smile and sense of humor. I’m not going to lie, she has to LOVE to eat. I hate when I take a girl out and she doesn’t eat. I just don’t get that. It makes me think she’s a fake and it’s a turn off.

T: I have to ask everyone this, what gives you your energy? My fuel is as much coffee as possible.  Your answer can and may be used against you. Just sayin’.
D: Anything that purrs louder than a 1974 Chevy Camaro.

T: One of my bff’s is my first boyfriend.  Have you and Laurel ever been romantic?
D: No! Well, not really. No. No. Umm. . .what? Why are you looking at me like that? I don’t kiss and tell. If she wants to tell you she can, but I will say that we use to skinny dip all the time. Then I noticed she had tits. Can I say tits? Okay, chest. My boy parts noticed too and I can say it was the last time we ever skinny dipped.

T: Is there any underlying feelings there on your part?
D: Oh…Laurel is like my sister since we grew up in the orphanage. BUT that last skinny dip…..

Ok, back to some fun quick questions…

T: What do you do to escape reality for a bit?  I read my heart out.
D: No reading here. I like to hang out at Lucky Strikes with my bowling team Here For The Beer and drink beer. Or work on old cars.

T: Favorite place to vacation?
D: Unfortunately I’m not well traveled.

T: Favorite food?
D: Hot wings and beer from Lucky Strikes Bowl.

Thanks so much for letting me bend  your ear for a bit!  This has been a blast!
D: Yeah! You too. Hey, are you single?
T: *giggles and blushes* No, Sorry. But thanks for the compliment! :*

First thoughts after…
Wow!  I can't wait for the next book in the series!

How Distracted did I get?
Checkered Crime is a laugh out loud mystery.  From the beginning Laurel had me wrapped up in her fun and crazy world.  I love her quirkiness and loyalty to Trixie and Derek.  Trixie, wow she had me laughing my booty off!  LOVE her! Derek, protective "big brother" or something more? I can't wait to get to know this hottie mctottie cop better.  Jax, hottie mctottie number 2, the FBI agent with a mystery.  He's fun, tricky and I hope to see more of him in the future.  Also, I will never look at a walnut the same again.  Checkered Crime is a book that everyone would enjoy. It has mystery, humor and a touch of romance!
I give Checkered Crime…

5 baskets!
